Day One

The First full day spent working in the house and we're both knackered!

We started the day without much direction, but decided the best plan of action would be to work in the same room and strip all of the paper off the walls. We spent the morning working on the window wall and soon worked out a great team working method; one working on the lower half of the wall, the other the top.

We had a break for lunch and then cracked on with it. We had our first visitors in the afternoon which was exciting, but it does take up valuable working time! We finished for the day having cleared two full walls and the majority of a third.

First job tomorrow is to take some pictures of our handy work in the light then we're going to clear the other walls and tackle the rather scary looking bulging chimney...

For now I'm off for a well deserved glass of wine.

Exploring

So after the initial excitement of looking around and visualising what things might be like when we're done we started poking at things...

A mouldy carpet has been lifted and will be skipped tomorrow. There are a few (read as lots) of damp patches on the walls and also in the suspended wooden floor. We'll have to get that seen to sooner rather than later. Some of the carpet is salvageable so we'll keep that for walkways when we default get rid of the other carpets.

We started tearing randomly at the wall paper, starting mainly with the patches that had already started peeling. The plaster underneath generally looks OK, but will definitely need a skim if we're planning on painting them.

Meter reading was taken so we'll have to get onto an electricity supplier soon...

That was about it for the first day as we were both getting a little tired and were unsure of what to do next. We'll see where we get to tomorrow.

The ' Before shots' continued

More piccies, mainly the garden.

Scary

So we've had the first visit to our new house and it's rather scary... There seems a lot more work to do than either of us remember! It's hard to know where to start and it's a little daunting, but hopefully it'll be all worth it in the end!

'Before' photos to follow...

Wooo hooooo!

Two happy bunnies! Off to pick up the keys!

So close!

The monies have arrived, the monies have been sent to where they need to go, we're just waiting on them arriving and then the keys should be ours!!! So exciting, yet so tense!

Half way there!

The money has arrived! We can complete on the sale of this house! But it may be too late to complete the purchase today... Which means... We're homeless!?

Spoke too soon?

After all this waiting we still don't have the keys! How can this be so difficult? Money hasn't arrived at the start of the chain so it stops everything else after it... Half an hour left until it's a definite NO for today :-(

Solicitor Woes

Three and a half months since we had the offer accepted on the house and we're finally here, Completion day! It's not been as straight forward as we'd hoped... Constantly waiting for paper work, leasehold management companies taking the p!$$ and the most worrying part: a lack of building insurance threatening to stop the sale!

Fingers crossed though, this time tomorrow we'll have the keys and be the proud new owners of or project house! Fingers crossed I can sleep with all the excitement.

Waiting for the keys...

Three months since we had an offer accepted on the house and we're still waiting on the keys... We've both got itchy feet and just want to get stuck in!
