Kitchen

Its far too long since I posted but that probably reflects the lack of progress recently; It's funny how much time and energy a little person takes up! Still, building a family is far more important than building a house.

Anyway, the kitchen and downstairs toilet have been the only two real developments and they're still works in progress.
The loo still needs the gloss work doing but it's getting there:

The kitchen has gone a lovely shade of green now and hopefully by the end of the weekend it will have been fully tiled! The problem at the moment is that I can only deal with full tiles during the week as the tile cutter is far too noisy for a baby to sleep through... Still, its taking shape!

It's incredible to think how it started nearly two years ago.

One whole year!

We've now had the house a whole year! It's hard to believe we've had it that long, but at the same time it feels like it's been home for so much longer. Here's some before and after phots:

The original kitchen and sun room...

...becomes the new extension, kitchen and utility room:

The original master bedroom...

...becomes a spare room, bathroom and corridor:

The smallest bedroom...

...is slowly becoming a nursery!

The old downstairs bathroom

...has been moved upstairs

And finally, the original lounge with buckling chimney breast

...with a nice shiny new log burner.

Update

Well the DIY has taken a bit of a back burner recently and we've been enjoying living in a semi-normal house for a while. We're loving the kitchen! It's easy to work in and it looks as good as we'd hoped!

We've had our first soiree in this house with some friends, it only took a year! Today we're entertaining for the second time, paying back one of the many meals my in-laws cooked for us when we were without the kitchen.

It's be wrong to post without some form of progress, so here's the cooker hood which arrived today and took all morning to fit!

Engineer

Having: taken the kick board off, pulled the dishwasher out, un-kinked and reconnected the supply pipe, removed all of the silicon from the floor and kickboard, put the washer back in, put the kickboard back in and re-siliconed... I'm happy to say that the dishwasher it's fixed! Well it's currently running and has at least got water in it so I hope I haven't spoken too soon!

When the installers had pushed the dishwasher into the unit they managed to crush the water pipe... That meant the water pressure was very low and so the machine wouldn't start as a protection feature!

Fingers crossed that's the end of our manual dishwashing days!

Dishwasher

Having been without a kitchen for four months, one thing that we were looking forward to the most was the fact we'd never have to do the washing up again on account of our shiny new dishwasher. We loaded it up last night with all our crockery that's been gathering dust for months, flicked the on switch and left it for what seemed like hours to do it's thing! It was a massive disappointment when we opened the door to find everything add dirty as when we'd left it! It seems like water can drain from the machine but it won't let any in... Having exhausted all of the simple checks, I think it's time to call the installers... Sigh... Another few days of manual washing up it is...

The big move...

...well the start of it at least. With the work in the kitchen more or less complete (the stuff we're dependent upon other people for at least...) we've started moving stuff in! Not before having a good clean of the place first though.
It's hard with such a lot of room to decide where things should go though. I guess that's something which will come worth time when we start using it in earnest.

It still makes me grin walking into the room though as it's as good as we'd hoped it would be!

We put the table I'm the room today and I'm happy to say it fruits with room to spare. I can envisage many-a-morning sat there eating my breakfast, looking out into the garden!

There are still a lot of finishing touches to do like skirting board etc. but at least it's a functioning kitchen! We even had our first oven cooked meal at home for nearly for months tonight! It'd just be wrong if it wasn't pasta...

Kitchen

The kitchens finished! It's plumbed in, wired up, oiled and sealed! It looks great! The only down side it's we don't have any excuse not to cook anymore...

Kitchen day 4

The house stinks tonight as they've oiled the worktops, but it looks really good!

Kitchen day 2

Another day and more progress. We're so happy with the way it looks! There's still quite a few jobs to do, but it's definitely taking shape!

Kitchen day one

I was wondering how far they'd have got in a day and I have to say I'm suitably impressed!
I'm also quite pleased at how roomy it still feels. When the delivery came, I knew that all the stuff was spread out, but it felt quite cramped. Now that everything is in it's rightful place, it feels like they'll definitely be enough room to fit the table.

Delivery

We have a kitchen! It's just a shame it's not in a useable state... We do however now have a useable cooker and hob! That means we'll never have to face another microwave meal ever again! Well, after we've got somewhere to prepare food that is...

Blank Canvas

The floor is now laid and the cooker has been delivered, so once it's connected up tomorrow we'll be able to cook real food again!! I've put the cooker more or less in the right place, but despite it being a 5-burner monster, with nothing else in the kitchen it looks small!

We're now ready for the rest of the kitchen!
