It's been a while since an update, but that doesn't mean no progress... we've mainly been working inside recently and focussing on the en-suite. The toilet and basin are fully plumbed in (although there may be a few drops still...) but the shower is proving to be a bit fiddly. Tray in, enclosure in place and tiles on the wall. Realised that having a void behind tiles might make grouting a little tricky so took some tiles back off and plastered the void. Waiting for that to dry to then put the tiles back on and then grout it! Fingers crossed I'll have the shower finished by the end of the week!
A blog to record the progress of our house ' do-er-upper' project. It will act as a memory book to record everything we went through on our house renovation project, the before and after and our trials and tribulations. Here's hoping for a nice and easy, straight forward, house renovation project!

Finished!!
... the first coat... on the front of the house. Still, it's another step closer and looks a little bit more presentable now!
Painting above the porch was an interesting experience, but I managed it all the same!

Carpet!!!
Carpet day today in the lounge! We'll finally be able to clean the house without a thin layer of dust settling two minutes later!
More paint removal attempts outside (pain staking doesn't describe half of it...) but only a bit more painting to do on the front until we've finished the first coat!

More nice weather, more outdoor improvements
All of the front below the brick course has had a single coat, the front door has had a colour change and attempts at removing paint from the brickwork above the window...

Two more sections
Still not sure how to do the back of the house, but the bit everyone else can see is coming along nicely!

Big reveal!
A big day today! The scaffolding finally came down, the render has been patched up where there were still holes, the hallway and chimney breast have been fully plastered and holes have been drilled for the en-suite wastes. There are a handful of jobs still to do and the rest is then all down to us!!
Bye bye builders, hello relaxing evenings in a fully finished house! Well, maybe next year...

Porch
Windows are in, the door has been moved and the inside has been plaster boarded! It's amazing how much lighter the hallway is now, but that's what we be hoping for.

More pointy windows
The chimney is finished, the porch window frames are in so fingers crossed the internal plastering and a few finishing touches are all that is left!

En-suite
All of the bathroom furniture is here! We've got a fair bit of plumbing to do before we can install it but we're another step closer!

Master bedroom
Saturday was an exciting day! The carpet was fitted, new furniture was built and we moved the bed in! One room in the extension is done! Now it's 'just' the bathroom, wardrobe, hallway, porch, office, lounge outside... maybe we'll be finished one day.

Final stretch?
"All" we have left is the porch ridge tiles, windows, doors, render and internal plastering! We may actually get done within a year!

Porch
Well we've finally had a few days of average weather which means we've seen quite a bit of progress from the builders. The chimney is slowly but surely getting higher and they're out of the ground with the porch!

Water water everywhere...
Another day, another leak... this time it's the front door. The porch meant that the front door had a roof over it and so it never actually got wet in the rain. We didn't know how bad the door was until it rained...

Slowly but surely
I accept there always needs to be a bit of mess and destruction in this sort of project before things get better, but why does new mess always come before the last job has finished? Rather than finishing the chimney brickwork, the builders decided to take down the porch and start taking the render off the front of the house... There has been some small progress made on the chimney now but it would have been nice to have that finished first...
